Ingredients
1 block (14 oz) extra-firm tofu, pressed
1 tbsp cornstarch
1 tbsp sesame oil
1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce (or tamari)
2 tbsp maple syrup or brown sugar
1 tbsp rice vinegar
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
1 tsp toasted sesame seeds (for garnish)
Method
1
Crumble the pressed tofu using your hands or a fork until it resembles the texture of ground beef.
2
Place the tofu crumbles in a bowl and sprinkle with cornstarch. Toss gently until the tofu is evenly coated—this helps it get perfectly crispy!
3
Heat sesame oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the tofu crumbles and pan-fry for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and crispy on the edges.
4
While the tofu is cooking, whisk together the soy sauce, maple syrup, rice vinegar, minced garlic, and grated ginger in a small bowl.
5
Once the tofu is crispy, reduce the heat to medium-low. Pour the teriyaki sauce over the tofu and stir continuously for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens and thoroughly coats every crumble.
6
Remove from heat. Serve hot over steamed rice, quinoa, or cauliflower rice.
7
Garnish with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds before serving.
