Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper or grease it lightly.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the almond flour, cocoa powder, protein powder, baking powder, and salt. Mix well to combine evenly.
In another bowl, whisk together the applesauce, maple syrup or honey, melted coconut oil or butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring until well combined. If using, fold in the dark chocolate chips.
Transfer the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it out evenly.
Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean (a few crumbs sticking is perfect).
Once baked, remove the brownies from the oven and allow them to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack. Slice into squares and enjoy your protein-packed ultra fudge brownies!
